I'm looking for sources for detailed pictures, and information for my newly acquired C. I've looked at several pictures, but I'd like to see manufacturer specific details. Should I look into parts books, and a service manual (I plan on getting it)? On my tractor, the prior owner rigged up a new seat. I believe mine should have a flat bench style seat. I'm missing the dist/or mag, starter, manifold, carb, fenders, etc. I bought it as a project to teach my boys, and restore it to correct manuf. specs. Any help would be appreciated. I'm not in a rush to finish it, but rather cherish the journey with my boys.

the wheel is on a tapered steering shaft, with a half moon key. remove the nut, heat the hub around the center of the wheel with a propane torch as hot as you can, get a big punch or bar and set it on the back side of the wheel hub and beat the @#$% out of it with a 5 pound hammer. if it dont move, you dont ahve enough heat and the hammer is too small. the shat is 4-5 feet long with a gear on the end and mounted into the steering box. you can not pull the rod out without disassembly of the box. probably has wear inside. may need new bearings. clean out the oil and refill with grease.

A WIDE FRONT ON A C WAS OPTIONAL. IT WAS ADJUSTABLE, AND IS A HIGHLY DESIRABLE STYLE. LOTS OF LUCK WITH THE C. GREAT LITTLE TRACTORS. I HAVE 2 OF THEM, BOYH NARROW FRONTS. BOB

Deuce,the year your tractor was built was 1946. They came with a flat bench style seat,but many were switched over to a spring seat. (after using both styles I like the spring seat,but that is my choice) I found it very helpfull to get both a service and parts manual.I got mine from an agco dealer. They made the model C in three front end styles, most popular was the dual narrow front wheels then an adjustable wide front and finally a single front wheel. I have 4 model Cs and have found them to be one of the easiest tractors to restore. Good luck with your project and have fun.

I forgot the serial# in case it helps.

A little hard to read, but I believe it is;

C 37926

It also has a wide front and is missing the head lights.

I have not gotten my manuals yet since we just got the tractor Friday, but we have started to disassemble the tractor. One problem I'm having it with the steering wheel, and steering shaft. Is there a secret to getting the steering wheel off? It will wiggle, but won't come off. Ther is a key slot on the shaft behind the nut, but I don't see a key. Is a puller necessary? I didn't want try start with the puller. How does the steering shaft seperate from the steering box? Are there any good sites or books to reference pictures of correct "C's"? One more thing, how does the fan belt come off of the crank pulley? It doesn't seem like there is room to remove the belt.

The wide front would not be correct but it could have been put on from a B. Look in my web site for a picture or 2 of my C. I also have a lot of parts for the C since I have 2 parts Cs on the place. E-mail is open
