Hello;

I found a small spot of rust in the bottom of the gas tank in my 51 model b. It is a spot a few inchs long and about that wide.
Is it worth it to put a tank liner in, such as redcote?

Thanks

If it is not leaking I would not put the sealer or liner in just put something in the tank like nuts , bolts , hard rocks or a chan in there shake until the rust is all out and rinse it out and put it back you can always put the sealer in later

You probably already know or have fixed the tank problem; but miratic acid (sp) will take ALL of the rust out of that tank....(GUARANTEED). I had a gas tank in my 63 power wagon that was really bad, and it looked like a shiney new dime when I rinsed it out with the miratic acid. Coated it with the red coat and no problems. In my case diesel tank I made a 1" stand pipe where the fuel line comes out, because it has some rust in it, till I can flush it and coat it, hope this helps...Phil H

about 12 years ago my dad coated and sealed the tank on my C (before it was mine) it has some rust and it leaked. he used the stuff from eastwood. its good stuff. we didn't put it an in tank filter, but we did put on inline to the carb. ran great since, execpt for the time the points went out.

I had some tank rust in my tractor. Ended up draining the gas tank and repeatedly flushing it as best as we could with clean gas. It's been 300 hours of use after that, and still runs great.

Most of my tanks have a certain amount of scale or sand in them, but the tanks are not rusted badly. I put a little two-cycle oil in them occasionally to help with the rust. The best thing I did was to install in-tank fuel filters. No more problems with clogging.

I'm with Old. If it isn't leaking, don't worry about it. If it is on the outside, I've sanded those thoroughly and coated with JB Weld and had excellent results.

A lot of the gas tanks on my tractors have some rust in them and I don't worry about it. Now if it gets bad enough to cause problems ya you probably should coat it but if you not haveing problems why do it. Some times just mixing a little tranny fluid in with the gas will help take care of that rust

I do it on my tractors when I start having rust problems but, if your going to do it, do it right. I go to an automotive and get an acid wash to clean it out and an etching agent. After those two products are used according to the instructions I then line the tank with a good liner. If not done right, it can be a real mess and you could end up getting a different tank anyway.
