i am confused. i dont know how to hook up the battery on my d17. i negative supposed to go to the ground or the other way around. i am confused because it works either way ! i would think that the negative post would go to the ground but some crazy things were done.

All allis stuff with a generator is positive ground originally. It will work either way. All that is needed is put the pos post on the coil toward the switch if you're changing to neg ground and polarize the generator by momentarily shorting across the Battery and Generator posts on the regulator with a screwdriver or other fairly heavy piece of wire.
