I would like to know how much a Allis Chalmers Roto baler is worth.. I found one and it is a orange top and it is in working condition and with extra parts and belts.. This unit is in really good shape, it has been stored inside.. please give me some ideas on how much it is worth.. Thanks, Chad

$250 to $500 in the condition you describe.If you have never run one try to find someone that has to help you at first.Several little 'tricks' to make them work right but not a big deal to learn.I ran one for years we even bale a couple hundred a year now.Puts up the nicest hay of any baler.

They sell between 100.00 and 750.00. Remember you must rake hay different than you do for a square baler.

If it works and is in good condition, it is worth MORE! Extra parts are a plus. Most Roto Balers sit outside, things rust, freeze up, or rot (tires & belts) and you spend a lot of time either fixing them, or looking for parts. I bought one several years ago here in SW MO, paid $225 for it, greased it, took it to the field, & used it. At the time, junkers were available for about $100. So to me it was worth the extra $$..... ....RP

My self I have passed up probably 20 of them in the last few years at auctions. They all sold for less then $100 and most around $25-50. My self I would never own another one but I have had some bad times with one and I just plan hate them but thats a very long story

What exactly is a roto-baler? A hay baler or a combine of sorts?

I've never seen one.

They where made back in the 60s and 70s. They would make a round bale the same size as a square bale and where made to be pulled by a small tractor like the Allis B

Old,the first ones came out in about 1949 and if you tried to pull one with a Allis B,then I can see your problems because they could give a WD all it wanted at times.A CAwith live power wouldn't run one unless it was very-very light hay.

Well as per the papers that came with them they said a B could handle one just fine. Ya I did pull one with a B but switch to a Ford 841 and I still learned fast to hate them. I wasn't 100% sure when the first ones came out but knew they where made up till the early 70s

Hey Old, The Roto worked best with the WD/WD-45 becuase of the hand clutch. The late model WCs didn't even work that well with the baler. If you used any other tractor brand, then you can expect headaches because you needed the live power.

I have run one with a B its a load but a B will do it.A fellow near me bales about 100 bales a year with a tiny Yanmar hooked to the Roto baler.
Looks silly but he gets the job done

I was at a farm auction where they had an AC Roto-Baler with an orange top and it went for $210. It wasn't in near as good as shape as the one you described.
