On the firewall of my AC model 5040 there is a small box that looks like some kind of relay. It has a contact swich in it with possibly a resistor and two wires. Anyone know what this is and what it does ? I'm having trouble with starting. It sometimes smokes when I warm up the glow plug. I also don't think my alternator is charging the battery ? AC shade mechanic needs HELP !

You should post a picture of the little box. It may be your regulator. You can check your charging voltage at the battery by using a volt meter with the leads connected across the battery terminals of the battery. You will need the engine at 3/4 throttle and you should have around 14.5 volts when the engine is running. Hal
