The alternator on my 5040 is dead. I have jumped it off so many times I have killed the cells in the battery. I have had people tell me that the alternator is the same as the old GM alternators. Does anyone know this for sure? Any help would be appreciated.

If it looks like this, it's a Delco 10SI, as used on 1975 - 1985 Chevy pickups, for example.

Does the tractor have a 3rd small wire (for the tach) connected to the same area as the 2-wire connector in the photo, or to a terminal on the back of the alternator? If so, the tach won't work unless the replacement alternator has a provision for the tach wire.
