I have not seen any rebuild kits for starters on any Allis Chalmers tractors. I think maybe the starter on my WD 45 needs to be rebuilt. Anyone have any info on starter rebuild kits?

i,m working on a spare starter for a wd45, i,m removing windings from a delco chev 12volt and installing them in the 6volt wd45 starter, to see if i can make a 12volt starter. the 6volt starter does last a long time using 12volt battery, but it might work

the kits are out there. have to go to a rebuild shop for the windings . some rotate counter clockwise and some turn clockwise. i have starters built for high compression allis wd or wc for tractor pulling .starts 14.1 engines 6volt oem want even think about it oh yeah there 12 volt starters so you can run a 16 volt race battery if you wish .

I have always had luck with a local rebuild shop (Kewanee, IL) for parts. I just rebuilt the Delco starter on my WD and got all the parts from him. The old Delco parts are getting harder to find though. I'd check your yellow pages for automotive electrical shop.

I have never seen a starter rebuild kit for AC starters. I've never looked for one either because I've never needed one. 95% of the time, starting difficulties with Allis tractors are poor cables, poor battery post connections and poor ground on the starter body. It would be well worth your effort to get new cables, clean the battery posts and remove the starter to ensure the quality of the ground from the starter body to the bell housing. After these things are 100%, reevaluate the need for a starter rebuild.

Thanks for bringing up those points to check. I put a new battery in about 18 mos. ago. I cleaned the battery cable clamps then. I didn"t think to just change the cables. I"m glad you mentioned about the ground connection through the starter housing. That hadn"t occurred to me. The starter really seems to drag which could indicate a bad connection of somekind. Thanks alot!
