AC W Speed Patrol replacment engine

I'm probably going to find a WC and junk it out for the motor. I can't justify much money as it sits alot, but is sure appreciated when I do need it.

Something to think about especialy if you stand near a tractor pull! I was running wide open down the sholder of a hwy when without any warrning it tossed her cookies, at least a 5" hole on the right side and probably 4 inch on the left side. Now when those tractors come screaming down the track and you just get a little to close--well you know what I'm a thinking.

Besides when it took the right side of the block it pushed the pan and chunk of block into the steering knuckle so hard I could not turn it at all. It wasn't so much as a close call as the sholders of the hwy are very wide. But then there are times that it could have been a bad deal.

I'm not into E-bay, and freight cost are a real big expense, but anyone got a ball park idea what just a motor--assuming a no oil burner would go for. Yea, I get upset when I read these type of questions too, but now I'm on the other end of the stick so it doesn't seem like such a stupid question at the moment at least.

I also realize that just because years ago we bought these old tractors for less than a gallon of good paint costs now days, it seems hard to keep up with repairs let alone justify it to the wife--bless her litle heart. Now I finaly understand grandpas thought process alot better than I did as a child. Thanks in advance

I just love the W and the job it does. Mine is usualy used around construction jobs and landscaping. It is actualy very easy to operate with all the hand operated controls. A little time and learning that it is not a HD-16. After a while you just know what to do ahead of time, and the sound and feel is very important. I guess cutting hard packed gravel is pretty much a job for the bigger boys. I've had mine since 78 or 79. Golly was my wife upset. Granted they many times have good reason---but she had just returned from a two week vacation for herself and spend the same as my W plus about $1,500.00. The W is still here an she aint, so I guess I'm the winner for sure?

It's kind of fummy that since the death of the W, I have got four calls on assisting me to find a new motor. The hidden part is that three of the four were laughing the first time it rolled into their yard years ago. Now it's golly you got to get her going again as it just does such a nice job etc.

Has anyone seen one with a scarfire on it? The parts book shows them in different sizes. I can't imagine changing them back and forth, but sure would make a good excuse to buy one that had one on.

I actualy would be interested in a actual WC patrol---like pictured in Chucks big AC book. But I have never seen one, and they probably did not do a good job. And you all know how important it is to be the only one on the block with a certian toy.

Another one that I would die for is the B version like I seen at Hutchison MN show one year. I kind of think the chicks would just have to dig it, if I couldn't come up with a better excuse to buy one. However that one was worth more than my hide is worth.
