on a fairbanks morse mag, having removed the 2 caps and looking at the points, should you see a spark when you turn it? even though the connection from the coil to the rotor has been removed.presuming everything is working correctly. thanks, l gehring

Rather than letting the coil secondary spark into an open circuit, ground the shank of a screwdriver to the mag's case, and manuever the screwdriver's tip about 1/8" from the high-tension terminal on the coil, and see if you have spark.

Simply letting the coil "fire" into an open circuit is NOT good for the coil.

gentlemen, thanks for the info. tried the srcewdriver trick. now i know my coil is good. now i'll buy the fiber gear and be in business
