A couple of Allis C questions

What is the factory rear tire size? The one, a '49 model, I bought a few months ago has almost new 8.3x24s on it. They seem small to me. Also, what is the approximate setting for the idle mixture screw on a Marvel-Schebler carb. Mine is almost all the way in, but idles and runs well. I have soaked in carb cleaner twice for about 24 hours at a time with no change. Thanks for the help.

If it idles correctly dont worry about it. I have had them not turn in far enough to idle properly. I would take even money that it had water in it some time and the needle or seat has pits in one or the other. Might even have the tip of the needle gone. Sounds like you already know but you start adjusting at 1 1/2 turns out. You then work back and forth with the stop screw on the back of the carburetor turning the idle screw in until you have the idle set. I have never had the idle setting get out of adjustment once it was set.

According to manual rear tire size is 9-24. The only thing I find is idle speed of 400rpm. Adjusted when engine hot. As I remember that was not out very far. Book mentions both carburetors were used.

I think but can not be sure that when new they had 12X24 on them, maybe 11X24s. As far as the carb I have never seen a MS carb on them. Should be a zenith model 61AJ7 or 161J7

Thanks for the quick responses. My books, an IT and an original, say a Zenith or a MS was used. Also, the smaller rear tires allow the rear mower mounts to dig into the ground when on an uneven area. I hate to get the torch on it.
