AC WD45 - Live PTO?

Okay guys, here's a lady who owns a AC WD45, 1947 vintage and in great shape. I'll admit that I really don't know a lot about this tractor other than, I really love driving it and find that it has the power to disk my arena and snowplowing in the winter. My question is..does this model have a "live PTO"? When I offered this tractor for sale, I was asked this question. Is there a way to tell by looking at it or must I be able to work levers and gears?

Sue, mostl likely you are wrong about the year of the tractor. WC was made from 1933-1948, WD 1948-1953, WD45 from 1953-1957. WD and WD45 have hydraulics and a hand clutch, WC does not. WC and WD have removable plate on the side of the engine block, WD45 does not. Serial numbers are on the rearend of tractor. On WC it is in the center and on WD and WD45 it is by the left brake cover. By this time the tractors could easily be made of parts from several different models, as things break or wear and are replaced. WD and WD45 have live hydraulic and PTO power when you use the hand clutch, this power is not live when you use the foot clutch. You can stop motion of the tractor while the PTO and hydraulics continue only if you use the hand clutch and not if you use the foot clutch. You should change gears only with the foot clutch. Many parts interchange between all three tractors, but most especially the WD and the WD45.

Well now that you know it can't be a WD45 if its a 1947 heres a few things to look at to see what it is. A WC will have the tranny right behind the engine and then a tube sort of thing going to the rear end. A WD or WC engine in the right hand side will have a bolt on plate. The WD has the tranny sitting back bu the rear end and has a hand lever on the right side. Push forward and tractor stops moveing but PTO will keep going. The WC does not have that lever on the right side

A "1947" AC WD45 is not correct. WD45's were not made in 1947. A 1957 maybe. It does not have Live PTO as such . Live PTO however is available by use of the Hand Clutch which stops forward travel and allows the PTO to continue under power. This feature started with the introduction of the WD and continued into the D series of Tractors.

Hey Sue If this tractor is a 1947 it is not a WD45, it would be a WC and definitely does not have live pto power, however if it is a 1957 it would be a late WD45 and would have live pto and hydralics. Hope this helps, Harry

Only if the Hand Clutch is used to implement such a feature. Push the Foot Clutch in on a WD thru a D Series and forward Motion and Hydraulic use stops.

Okay boys....seems that all this time, I"ve been buying all sorts of parts and pieces for the wrong tractor. Everything I replaced, plugs, muffler, brakes, etc. has always been for the WD 45. Now, you"ve got me real puzzled so I"m going to take a picture of it and post it. Then I want you all to please take a look and let me know what I"ve got. My next question is...where can I post a picture?

Post it here under "Help Identify" on the left side of your screen. The brakes...do you have hand, or foot brakes? WC was hand brakes, WD and 45 were foot. Most parts interchange between a WD and WD45. PTO on either one was controled with the foot clutch. You can have a somewhat live PTO using the hand clutch, but shifting gears with it is sometimes an issue.
