The steering on my C (narrow front) got tight one day while mowing. Work ok prior. Suspect the steering box - has minimal play. It has Gemmar style. Tried to adjust backlash as per the manual with ecentric screw, but no improvement. Any suggestions?????

I agree with Dick. Could be as simple as low on grease on either the front or back or both. Some how with out grease they do start to turn harder and harder. Of course it could also be bearing etc going bad, but most of the time again it goes back to a grease problem and $0.50 worth of grease will save $500 in repairs

If I were you I would unhook the drag link and make sure if it is a problem with steering box or the front end. If it is in the steering box you might try backing off the adjusting screw and bumping the other side on the cross shaft to see if it bound up. Might just be out of grease.
