It is a four cylinder 200cu inch turbo-intercooled diesel.

This smoke can be cleared up with timing. Many older diesel engines will have gear wear that will cause the need for the timing to be moved off the diesel pump timing markes to clear this type of problem.

You may need to work the engine so the new rings seat. I would keep a close check on the engine coolant to see if you are needing to add some. Hal

Should I try plowing/discing with it to seat the rings? I have about 300 hrs since rebuild and cut hay with a haybine and baled about 200 round bales. Apprecaite any comments, Chris

With that many hours they should be seated by now.
You could try plowing. I did that on a Farmall A
I did run it up down a hill several times before I put the plow on. Hal

I used the rebuild kit from agco and the top two rings have a silver coating and the third one is just black, the oil control ring is stainless. I know this without dissassembling the tractor because the oil ring was so brittle I broke one by dropping it, so I bought another set. Any ideas are appreciated! Thanks, Chris.

Can"t say I"ve ever had to rebuild that engine I do know it"s the same for the most part as the newer K2 and F2 and F3 diesel. I thought if they were chrome that they would be a bear to seat in if at all. Does it use any oil mostly doing gin work i.e. hauling manure or etc? If so does it stop using it when pulling hard? Usually that"s a sign of a ring seating problem. You may want to talk to the dealer mechanic and ask the break-in procedure for those kits if you can get through the verbal abuse for not having him do it. Also did you have the turbo checked out for a leaking seal? Just some ideas, hope they help. CT
