A friend of mine just bought a restored A.C. tractor. We think it may be a WD 45. Is there any way to tell what it is.

Serial number decides which model. Look where old says- 146607 and above is a WD45, 1953 or newer. AC pioneered Power-Shift rear wheels in 1948 on the WD. Curved shifter with constant mesh transmission was on the WD in late 1952, SN 127008.

Theres a number of way to tell for sure what it is or if its one made out of more then one tractor. #1 is by serial number which if its a WD or WD45 2 different models that look the same almost. Serial number will be on the left rear axle houseing just below the brake cover. If you walk up to it from behind you should see a flat spot where it is. Also a WD45 has a curved shifter and on the right side of the engine it will not have a bolt on plate. If its a WD then the engine will have a bolt on plate on the right side and most do not have the curved shifter unless its a very late model. If you get the serial number then just look on the left under serial numbers and see where it fits
