High oil pressure on B

I'm looking for your expert advice on my cranker B. After a new oil pump installation by a local shop, the non-original oil pressure gauge pegs out at 30 psi at regular RPM, and runs about 22 psi at very low RPM.

The shop appears to be out of business, so I can't ask them to dial it in. The guys at the local show suggested I could get to the pump by dropping the oil pan, and that one issue could be the thickness of installed pump gaskets. I'm also thinking there could be problems with the pressure relief valve. Is there something I can do without re-splitting the tractor? The plugs also foul wet/black fast, which did not happen before that I remember. Is this high oil pressure also blowing into the cylinders?

For easy tries, I put in 20 weight oil, and a NAPA filter, but I'm still at 30 psi.

Dick so your saying I can put a oil pump from a D15 in my C with no problems?

They must have installed a pump that goes to a D-15. They are a higher volume and would build a higher pressure trying to get thru the oil filter. The pressure on the gage is mostly regulated at the gage with resistance from the filter. Your higher pressure should not cause you any problems. Having a filter from NAPA does not always mean you received a paper filter. I still buy filters from NAPA from time to time. I just make sure they give me a cotton filter and not the paper filter. They had to open the box for me to tell the difference. I have a D-15 oil pump on my one C. I put it on for the higher volume because I drilled my crankshaft to pressure oil the rods. The Allis gage runs on the high side of NORMAL. It does put a little extra oil over the rocker arms which is still not a problem.

Unless I've got an oddball B, my oil pump is driven by the end of the camshaft and is just above the flywheel. Dropping the pan will not give access to the pump..you have to split the tractor.

I checked my Allis B repair manual. There is a relief valve inside the pump. It does not show an adjustment screw. I had a similar problem on a WD and it turned out to be the ball was frozen on the relief valve. I was able to get the ball loose without pulling the engine. In your case, you will need to remove the pan to get at the pump.

The use of multiple gaskets in the pump is to control clearance in the pump - not pressure. Your relief valve is the most likely problem.
