Does anyone know of any mechanics or dealerships that specialize in AC tractor repair up in the Hibbing Minnesota area??? I have a D17 that is not running, the tractor will start but not shift into any gear and I have heard a chain like grinding sound as it runs. I am afraid it is the transmission, but I am a novice with this equipment and my situation is above my capabilities for repair. I was using a 3 bot plow for deer plots at the time my D17 went bad, the internal chain like grinding sound was a little unnerving to say the least. So any advice or help would be greatly appreiciated so maybe I can get this tractor fixed..

JMS, thanks for your help again, I have kept your friend Ron's phone number as a backup plan, but I have found a shop that is able to help me out and its only 25 mins away. Thanks JR

Send me an email. Mrs is a Hibbing native- we might be taking a trip up there soon, and if we do, I'll gladly give a listen to it. Sounds like the clutch throwout bearing is bad- that would/could prevent you from shifting into gear. Tractor would need a split to replace it. I'm also planning an auction trip NW of Duluth later this month- maybe around the 25th? Has a tempting D4 on it, but I bought a dozer lately and need a trailer to haul it. Are you the same one who posted a similar problem a month or two ago? I told about a good mechanic near Milaca. Ron- 1-320-983-3500. He might also know of others closer to you. My BIL near Hibbing could have helped you, but he died a few years ago. He taught diesel mechanics at tech school there, after many years at Ziegler's.
