I mowed the yard today. This is my first Allis, so I am still getting used to it. It has a 5' deck on it and mows well. It just doesn't seem to have as much power as I thought it would. It runs fine, no skips or misses. The governor doesn't seem to open up when going up a hill or in turns. It doesn't stall out, just slows down more that I think it should. At open throttle, it seems to run fast enough. Do I need to go to low gear? If so, I can cover more ground with my 10 hp wheelhorse. Thanks for suggestions.

I run a 5' on my B and it wants 1 1/2 gear. 2nd will really load it up unless you are taking a light cut. I mow in 1st and it wil slide the belts on the mower before it stalls the tractor.

Make sure your mower deck is set so it is lower in the front than in the back. The opposite takes up alot of power because you are cutting the same grass many times as you move forward compared to cutting once when adjusted correctly.

As Jerry said make sure the governor will open up the carburetor. In checking that part make sure the cross over arm from the governor is not rubbing thermostat housing. That is one that almost drove me crazy. I could open and close at the carburetor with the engine running and it would reve up fine and I could not find a problem and did not find it until I was moving it with the engine off and then I could feel the drag of the cross over arm.

Just had something unexpected happen a little while ago. I went to slow the engine and the throttle was stuck open. I moved the lever down to the idle position 2 or 3 times but did not change. I turned switch on and off to get to the barn to keep from over-reving. I checked when I got stopped and it had returned to idle position.

Make sure the governor actually opens up the throttle when calling for power. Try using it briefly with the air cleaner hose disconnected to see if there is a difference, the cleaner could be plugged. Last, drop the carburetor and stick your finger up into the manifold to check for carbon deposits closing off the intake. In the rarest of instances, there might be a carbon build-up on the valves which keeps them from closing quickly.
