B coil?

Fellas was wonderin if havin the coil grounded to the dist. incorrectly could have damaged the thing. Been goin over the little B an repairing all the jurry rigged shorcuts previous owner(s) had done and found with the 12volt negative ground that the positive wire off the coil was grounded to the distributer. Didnt know if maybe that could have damaged the coil or not. I am in the process of changin out the plugs,wires,dist. and rotor then the points. Thanks, Hoss

Wrong coil polarity can make an engine run poorly. If the system is negative ground the negative side of the coil needs to go to the point. If plus grd. the plus side of the coil to the point. Dito on the resistor. Resistor , if a seperate unit should be between the ignition sw. and the coil.

Hoss, reverse polarity shouldnt have damaged the coil, its primary still drew the same amps regardless, its just that its more efficient when used correctly. If an ammeter is wired wrong it simply reads bass ackwards while the starter is fine n still turns the same direction regardless. Its necessary on a 12 volt tractor to use EITHER a full true 12 volt coil or else add an external ballast resistor if a 6 volt coil is used otherwise the points burn up quick n the coil runs hottttt ttttt .

Guys, Thanks alot for the input Ill change out points ASAP in case they got a little cooked with the crossed coil wires. And by the way the six volt coil had no ballest resistor either, I installed one! Again,thanks alot, Hoss
