just wondering, is it typical for any or all of the 160, 170, etc. etc. to jump out of gear and if so what causes it and is there a cure? thanks for the info

I've heard of it but never owned one (too new for me). I think the 170 has about the same transmission as a D-17. So they were prone to the same problem. If you are buying, drive tractor up and down hills to detect it. Try applying the brakes when moving. If the brakes are good enough, they might make it happen. Problem is usually in 2nd or 3rd. I believe most tractors did not have this problem.

The cure is sometimes a new set of forks. Or may require gear replacement (lots of work). The only Allis that I ever had with the problem was fixed with a different set of used forks.
