First off, I am a John Deere guy so really don't know much about AC's. My neighbor has a model CA sitting out in the pasture. Apparently years ago one of his grown children came up to the ranch and ran the tractor without or low on oil resulting in a broken rod that went through the crankcase portion of the block. I have looked the tractor over and it all apears to be there and the block would be a fairly easy fix because of where the break is. I know there could be other problems with the engine due to running it dry. I am thinking about talking to him about the tractor, but my question is: 1) Is it worth restoring a CA in that condition? 2) How hard are parts to find for that particular tractor? I am unsure what year model it is. I just hate to see any old machinery just rust away. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Parts are readily available.. CA is a more sought after than a C, Wide front is more sought after than a norrow front.. AC's wont bring the $$$ that John Deere's bring.. But I agree with you about letting old iron rot away.. Let us know what you decide.. If you decide to get it, there is a lot of good people here willing to help....

Should be one that with around $1000 or less you should be able to fix up. Probably worth around $200-400 like it is now. Finding a good block shouldn't be all that hard. Shoot I have a pair of them laying around out of Cs I have for parts. One even runs but has a problem with the #2 sleeve and all it needs is a good sleeve and it would be ready to bolt into a tractor.

the original C tractor was built from 1940-50. The CA was an upgrade built till late 1950s. It has a 4 speed trans, spin out rear rims, an clutch ont he right axle to simulate live hydrualics. you can disengage the axle with pto still spinning. non running tracotr without the hole is probably $600. good running nice is $2500. Known problems are the hand clutch. Other than that, it is a wll proven tractor based on teh B-C.
