my son has d17 allis gas engine, 226 cu in. need to change rear main oil seal on engine, problem can't remove rear main bearing cap to change seal with out pulling engine. plate on engine attached to bell housing won't allow bearing cap to drop down. any help would be appreciated.

Denny Email me before you buy a seal I have a much better one to use I will walk you thru putting it in and YES you do have to pull the engine as the top seal retainer is bolted to the block behind the flywheel If its a diesel it wont work but you still have to pull the engine Carl

I've never done this. The IT manual says that you must pull the engine to renew the seal.
