I have a snap coupler brush hog. I have set the hydraulic pump settings according to the "hold position" in my WD manual. However, I cant find the "detent" position on the quadrant, and my hydraulics either go down or up still, not holding in one spot, so I am adjusting the lift all the time while mowing. I dont know what is wrong. Also, what do you use for a shear pin on the hog? I used a bolt, but they bend and shear too easy on small saplings.

Have you guys locked the traction booster linkage out on the bottom of the tractor ? There is a small screw that screws into a dimple in the casting on the T/B linkage to keep the T/B from working with the snap coupler /drawbar for holding positions and you must unlock it if you are going to be using a mounted plow or it will suck down about 10 inches befor the tractor stops Learned the hard way Carl

I have the same problem with my lift not staying put, so I'm going to do the same thing on my WD that I did with my Super M Farmall. I put a ball valve in the hydraulic hose line to the bush hog and when I get it to the right height, I shut the valve. It's not adjustable on the fly but in my pasture I don't need to be raising or lowering it.

My bush hog shear pin has never sheared. However, the 7/16" soft bolt in the PTO output shaft under the tractor will shear when I hit snything too heavy. Just don't use grade 5 or 8 bolts.

This is a tough one. If you have done it exactly as described on the decal on the battery box, you should have a detent. On my tractors, it really isn't a detent but a slight click which is more feeling than noise. I'll look at my WD-45 this weekend and refresh my memory. Sorry, I don't have an operating manual for a WD so can't be more help. I recall that two plates must rotate together and there is a screw than hooks them together. Also, the rod length is very important and there are adjustments for that as well.

Joe, is your mower a 3 point, or allis 2 point lift? Or is it a pull type? If it is a lift arm type, do you put a valve on both lift arm lines? Mine is a snap coupler lift and the arms either want to lower too far or raise up slowly, thus im constantly ajusting the lever, but there is no Hold position, even though the pump is set to the hold position, it does not work.

Like thes other guys said,it should work, and when they were new they probably did work. I've read somewhere in the archives that after time a ball check valve in the pump starts leaking and it creeps even though you might have all the settings right. You could have the pump worked on, but like I said in mey previous reply, I put a valve in the hydraulic line on my Super M between the pump outlet and the tee to the two lift cylinders. It would be a little more difficult on the WD since there are seperate lines going to each lift cylinder. Another problem I've experienced is that my control lever creeps up on the quadrant and the implement won't stay put without holding the lever constantly. I ordered the plastic blocks and coil springs to provide more friction between thwe levers and the quadrant. Hopefully that problem will be fixed.
