I have a D-17 that ran great when I parked it last winter but for some reason it will not run now . It will run for a few seconds if I shoot it up with starting fluid. I replaced the fuel filter and blew out the fuel lines but it still will not run. Any suggestions would be appreciated.How can I check out the fuel pump to see if it is working ect.

Did you bleed the air from the fuel lines after you worked on the fuel system? There is a procedure that needs to be followed....any little bit of air in the lines and the injectors won't pop open because air compresses way easier than liquid.

Look for bleeding screws (set screws) by the fuel filters. Start at the filter nearest the tank, remove the screw and let fuel run out until there are no air bubbles. Replace and go to the next one (if there is one I can't remember if the D17 has one or 2). Once that is done, crack an injector line at the injector (one that you can get to easiest), then crank the engine to get out any more air. We usually pulled the tractor at this point to save the starter and batteries....as it will take some cranking. Once running, retighten the injector line. Good Luck! PS Never run a diesel out of fuel or you will have the same problems!

not tryin to be a smart a** but you do have the kill lever in ''run'' dontcha???
you be surprised how many times i've seen folks scratch their heads over that goof.

Sounds like you have air in the fuel lines. Have you tried to loosen a line going to the injectors to see if you have good fuel pressure?

I'll give it a try. Is their anyway that the fuel pump can be bad or is this just a gravity pump system. I am not really good with diesel's
