My 1948 B has an Autolite starter. The switch is bad and the copper bar that runs from the switch to the starter itself is eroded. Where can I get these parts? My local auto repair hasn"t had any luck. I"d like to keep the starter if I can as it is the original one. Thanks for the help.

A piece of copper tubing pounded flat should work..

( PS..I've made big eye terminals that way.. take say.. 1/2 copepr pipe, slide in your big battery wire. pound flatand then solder.. then drill hole in end nd chamfer edges. )

For building-up copper contacts Phos-Copper welding rod would be better than solder. Phos-Copper may be called differing thing in differant parts of the country but it is a rod for welding copper with a ox/act torch. I use this rod when I modify Chrysler starters for winch motors. I also used this rod to build up the solenoid contacts in the import started on my V-6 Dakota.

I think you are talking about the flat strip between the output of the solenoid and the input to the starter.If I am guessing right you can mke one of any flat strip of steel or a conducting strip of metal.Use internal lock washers under the strip at both ends as it will make a possitive connection.If the starter post is corroded away build it up with solder and shape with file.I have found that plain ACID core works and lasts as long as soft copper.You can take care of the acid with some baking soda in water.
