I have just purchased a D-12 series III Allis Chalmers farm tractor which contains many numbers. I believe the number pertaining to this tractor is AM5511-4 but then I don"t really know. When ordering parts what number should I use to Identify the tractor itself? How can I tell what the HP is as well as the year?

My torque tube states I-400 I629 and the motor side is 12-7737-R, on right side I found tag under dist. on block looks like DG24T and casting # AM 5511-4, it left the factory as a loader/back hoe, 4cyl. gas, I need info for head gasket. thanks Ronnie.

there are 4 bolts holding the motor to the BELL HOUSING. it is called a bell due to its shape. it is actually the clutch housing that covers the engine clutch. it is the front part of the TORQUE TUBE, the tube bolts to the transmission at the back and the motor at the front. the drive shat from the clutch to the transmission is enclosed inside the torque tube.

THe number you gave is a casting number. Check where the white tape indicates in the picture for the serial number. It will begin D12-?????.

Man you guys are good! Had it not been for your response I would have never found that number! The idea of marking with the tape is a fantastic idea. Thanks for that too! I know very little of tractors and less of the proper names of the different parts of a tractor. Just what is the name of the part you told me to look for that number? Well thanks too you I found it and here it is,I think. There isn't a alpha prefix, 12-6018-R
How would I find or order a parts manual for the tractor when I don't know what I have? Can you help me on that?

That may be the serial number and was made in 1963. The engine had 139 cid and was rated at 31hp. Hal
23hp rated on drawbar, 29hp max on drawbar, pto hp max at 33.3, pto rated hp 28.5
