Two years ago I split my wd45 and installed a new overcenter clutch, and used the existing 3 shimms, without checking with a feeler guage, for the specified gap,as given in the manual. It has always creeped a little, but the handle locked back, like it should. I opened it up 2 wks ago and used shim stock and set the gap to the specified gap of 0.030, and now the tractor doesn't creep, but the handle wont stay locked. any one know what I'm doing wrong, Or was it normal before when it creeped, and was hard shifting. I'm sure some of you older hands, have successfully adjusted these clutches in the past. Thanks Ralph

Creeping is normal with the Allis version of the live power. It is much more noticeable on the D series tractors. As for shifting, the transmission clutch usually will not disengage enough to do shifting. It is just for starting and stopping the tractor without interrupting the PTO. I think you had it adjusted right the first time.

You DO NOT use the hand clutch for shifting. The have clutch is ONLY for stopping when you need to keep the PTO running like when you are wrapping twine on a bale in a Roto-Baler. To shift you need to use the FOOT clutch. Many tractor pop out of third gear from NOT using the foot clutch.

Thanks' Guy's. I appeciate the info. I recon that I'll, put the original 3 shims, back in. My tranny has been ok up to now except for having to put a new stick in when I first got it. Don't want to screw it up, by crashing gears, with a hand clutch. It's really a good old tractor, for a 1955. I use it only when my B is too small, to do the job. Thanks again Guys.
