I attended an antique power show yesterday and saw a couple of Allis B"s and C"s with a distributor and coil. They were in the "47 to "49 year models.
Is this factory or an after market, as my "49 B has a magneto?
If this is aftermarket will it fit in place of a magneto and is it still available?

Most of my B's have CA distributor set-ups on them. Once the electric start and headlights and generator came out the ability to add distributor ignition was there. My late B-C service manual shows both the mag and the distributor.

not aftrmarket, updated. And late ones probably came with distributors.

I worked at an Allis dealer in the later 60's to early 70's. In the Allis parts system WAS the convertion for the battery ignition. I remember one day a costomer was in having some magneto problems with his tractor. I tried selling him one of the battery convertions which I think at the time listed for $47.50. He would have none of it. He wanted a new magneto. I looked up the cost of a new mag. It was about $250.00. That set him back. I think we got his old mag to working.

there were later tractors, WD45, CAse, IH, Farmall, etc. that had distributors. most were made by DELCO or similar and are STANDARD. they fit several tractors. just need the adaptor parts to plug into the mag hole. Look on e-bay or YT mag sale.
