I have to agree. I've got two D17s, a series one and a series three. A good rugged, dependable tractor. Never let me down. BTW, what kind of loader does the one you are looking at have, full hydraulics or a trip bucket? The D17 is a very well balanced tractor weight-wise, though you will have to keep an eye on the front end. And they are two wheel drive, which can be somewhat of a pain when doing loader work. Before you agree to buy it, see if the owner will allow you to do some good hard work with it for about a half hour or so. My series I has a rear engine seal which is leaking, but it doesn't start leaking until the machine is good and warmed up from actual work. I need to work on the clutch sometime this summer, so I'll probably fix that seal while I've got it split. As to a good price, I would say $2500 or 3000 in this part of Missouri would be decent without a loader. The loader is sort of a wild card. Take a good look at it and try to use it before buying. A decent loader, fully hydraulic, no cracks, and a front end that has not been abused, might add perhaps $1000 or 1500 to what I would be willing to pay. Overall a good tractor. Christopher
