Does anyone have the deminsions on the pitman wood for a BC mower. Haven't been able to find one, thought I could make one but mine was completely rotted away & I don't know the deminsions.

I make mine out of hard maple, free of knots. 1.25" wide X 1.5" high. You'll need to taper the ends as necessary to permit the attaching hardware to mate properly with the drive knobs on the drive end and the knife ball on the driven end. You should definitely measure the mower to get the correct length. AC apparently used at least two different lengths of pitman sticks. I have an early mower ('42) and once had to replace the main support beam for the cutter bar. The replacement was about 2" longer than the original and required a longer pitman stick to suit. When you take the measurement for the length, make sure the knife is in proper register with the guards as shown here:

The throw is fixed and cannot be adjusted. I'd place both the drive and the knife in the far outer positions with the end section partially protruding beyond the outer shoe when you take the measurement.

You should be able to get the measurements off you mower with a ruler. Get the Pittman all the way back and slide the sickle bar to where it is in to where the first knife is past the ledger plate. Take a measurement then move the Pittman to the extended position and push the sickle bar to that same measurement and check the far end of your sickle bar. Make sure the sickle bar end knife is not farther than it should be. You can make slight changes to get the correct length and have the knives the same on both ends.
