Two questions regarding my 1950 WD: 1. How do you get the transmission fill plug off? I'm refering to the big square plug near the foot clutch pedal. Is there a special socket or wrench that will get it out? It's a big old square thing...

2. How do you access the differential for lubrication? There's a sticker on the back of the differential housing that says "Lubricate differential fequently" but I don't know how to access the diff. It looks like you have to take the big plate off the back to get at the gears...

Thanks and sorry if my terms aren't technically correct!

I guess really there are 4 filler points on the left side of the tractor if you count the air cleaner oil cup. I always washed mine out when necessary and refilled it with ATF. The manual says to use engine oil. ATF seemed to keep the filter media oil wetted better and it worked better in the winter.

There are 3 filler points on the left side of the tractor. The most forward twist cap with the dip stick is for the hydraulics. The next square headed pipe plug is for the transmission. The 3rd square headed pipe plug back is for the differential. This plug may be covered over with dirt and stuff. Both pipe plug ports are filled to overflow with gear lube; usually 85w90. You can usually get a 6 point socket to break a plug loose. I use my wheel lock wrench and don't tighten the plugs that much. Have you checked the lube level in the final drive pans?

I've not checked them. Where are they located? I have a picutre from an operators manual but it is so darned fuzzy that I can't tell for sure.

Thanks for the help!

They are on the inner face of the pan up near the attachment flange.

Thanks, Dave. Is that on the right side of the tractor?
