Allis Chalmers Model B Oil Pressure

Gave the "B" a little tug yesterday and she fired right up! I could not get a single burp otta her with the crank.On the el-cheapo replacement oil pressure guage I only get about 2 lbs pressure.I am running 10 / 30 oil. Is this a problem? And what should the oil pressure be? Thanks

I've purchased a 1956 Model B and I'm please to report that I'm running right at 20 psi. The engine has never been rebuilt and it does not use any oil. The person that I purchased the tractor from said that it had been in the family since it was purchased new. He stated that he had not yet changed the oil this year, only to my surprise it looked like new, golden in color. I'm sure I've bought a real nice one.

I have a CA with about 2lbs of pressure wide open. I bought a new filter, a new guage and 10W40 oil. I have been running it 2 years with 2lbs of pressure. Maybe an overhaul will fix it someday.

the pump puts out about 15 psi. the oil filter is a restricor and cleans 15% of the oil and dumps it to sump. the other 85% of the oil goes to the bearings. you should read 10-12 psi on the gauge. dont use a 60 psi gauge.... take off the filter and look at the bottom . if it is full of stuffed cotton, you are o.k., if it is a pleated paper filter, throw it away and put a FRAM C159 on it. ... 10w30 oil is fine and a very good oil, but you migh get a little more pressure on a 10w40 or 40 wt if your bearings are worn or pump weak.

Most oil pressure gauges don't work well on any of the older Allis tractors. You first off need one made to read the lower oil pressure and also if you don't have the correct oil filter on it the pressure will be very low. And also useing a stright weight oil works better then a muti weight oil. I may self would use a 30W if your where its not real hot or a 40W or 50W if your where its real warm out this time of year

On a healthy engine the gauge should be at 12-15 lbs. Any chance of borrowing a replacement gauge for a test? If it shows the same, I'd change that oil to straight 30 weight. If THAT doesn't bring it up, you might have an oil pump going bad.
