I inherited my Dad's 5020 a couple of years ago..... before he died he explained he had to replace the front axle, due to running it out of lube. Apparantly he replaced it, as I have had the use of the tractor for some time without problem.I was moving a lot of compost with the bucket, and was driving it back and forth in 4WD as I moved the loads. My front tire had been flat earlier in the day, so when it started to get low again, I drove it back to the house and refilled the tire. When I got done with the compost, I started doing some brush hogging on a slope. I could not get the tractor to steer uphill. I realized the steering mechanism was at full stop right, and the wheels weren't turned to the right at all. Sitting still, I could rotate the steering wheel through the full 'lock to lock' range, without the wheels following. I've since serviced the hydraulics, and gotten the inner tubes replaced on the front wheels. I suspect a shear pin on the steering gear box might be the issue, or I roasted the gear pair..... . Can anyone advise me?
