Just wondering if I am missing something. I can't get the tractor to idle down. It will slow to about 1/4 to 1/3 throttle and then cut completely off. I have adjusted the throttle rod length and the idle screw on the carb. The governor looks to be working and the spring seems to be ok. I am studying the manual but just can't seem to come up with anything. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

On the trottle rod plate there should be a stop screw. If its not set right when you trottle it back it will close the trottle palte to far and cause that problem. So you need to set that screw to make sure it will not let the plate close to far.

Thanks old, I'll check it tomorrow. I knew it had to be something simple. The fellow I got it from said he had the carb overhauled. Maybe the screw was forgotten.

It can be hard to see. If you pull the carb off its on the trottle plate area out side of the carb. Sort of hard to explain but any how if you would unhook the gov. Rod from the carb and then hold it closed it should be adjusted so it will just run rough is ok but still run. You will need to be careful if you unhook that rod because if you don't hold it closed it will try to over rev. BTDT and it can blow an engine if you let it. Aslo be careful it gets hot in that area fast and can be hard on the hands

Yeah, I have noticed the heat. Is there supposed to be a spring somewhere on the backside of the carb to help slow the engine when the throttle is closed? There is one on this one but it doesn't look like it came that way from the factory. There is a small hole drilled through the throttle rod and the other end is fastened to a wire around the air cleaner stack. It doesn't look right to me. Unhooking that spring earlier did not effect the way it was cuting off or slowing down.

Sounds like that spring is on very wrong. If I rememebr right it should go forward and hook to one of the exhaust manifold studs. I would have to loo at my Cs to make sure 100% but it seems like it should go forwrad not backwards from the trottle rod
