WD_Too_Lean??

Have to run my WD with the choke pulled out about 1/3 of the way, even after engine reaches operating temp. Otherwise it runs too lean (apparently) and engine sounds rough. Adjusting the main carb jet does not solve the problem. Currently have it set about 1-1/4 turns off the seat, but screwing it all the way out does not help the "too lean" condition. Replaced the carb to manifold gasket. Recently did a tune up - so ignition is all OK. Have not yet tried spraying carb cleaner around the manifold to head connections to look for a leak there. AM I MISSING SOMETHING? I keep thinking it is an air/fuel mixture problem.....thanks..... .....RP

Thanks for the replies. Those are good suggestions. I have not yet had time to follow up on them, but I will by this weekend....RP

I had a similar problem with my WD a couple of weeks ago. Ended up being the inlet for the fuel bowl had some crud in it. I took an air hose and blew backwards through it. Makes a big mess if you don't drain the tank though. As always use extreme caution when messing around with fuel.

Screwing the main jet in more will make it run even leaner. On the main jet you open it up more to get more fuel, on the idle jet you close it or screw it in to make it run leaner. Most WDs I have messed with the main jet has to be out about 4-5 full turns to run as it should. One thing you might try is pull the main jet out completely and then spray carb cleaner in to it with the drain plug removed. What that will do is flush out any rust etc. that maybe clogging the main jet
