600 engine rebuild

Just finished a major rebuild on my 640. Sleeves/piston, rod/mains the new valves the whole nine yards. And to top it off it even runs! Even rebuilt he lift cover.
The only problem I am having is a seeping fuel leak. It appears after I shut the engine down and starts around the carb mounting flange. I took the carb bowl off and checked float needle valve, it does not appear to be leaking. Took the carb off and removed the top cover wipe the surface of bowl clean and pored some gas in the bowl, the gas seems to by capillary action I guess climbs right up on the mating surface and before long wets the entire surface. I have to assume that this is happening after the engine is shut down as well. The engine is not running rich while in operation. My next question is, is a new carb in the works? I just don't know what to do about this. I know it is a minor thing, but I don't like fuel leaks no matter how small, sooner or later they get bigger and usually at the worst possible time!
Any thoughts from the mighty engine gurus that live here will be appreciated.

I did not realize I was on A/C board. Your explanation sounds plausible. However I think everyone here is interested in old tractors no matter who's make!

Is your (600) carburetor made of a zinc casting? Have you boiled it which would have removed the original CHROMIC ACID finish which tends to then have a much more capillary action. CENTAUR
