lookin up tune up parts at work for an allis and i noticed the rotor for delco remy has a tail like some of the late automotive stuff. and allis-chalmers is the only application listed with that rotor. was allis ahead of their time? whats the purpose of the tail?

that is called an anti-kick back rotor. It is supposed to keep the tractor from kicking back when you hand crank it.

the>Link tail is on the conductor that arcs to the cap.
all other delco remy rotors have a square conductor just as wide as the posts inside the cap.

PERHAPS the tail acts as a "counterbalance" to the weoght of other half of the rotor, when used on HIGH RPM engines?

Also, ozone is generated by electric arcs. Various means are used to vent the (corrosive) ozone out of the cap. Perhaps the "tail" helps "ventilate" the cap...fanning the air and ozone out vent holes.

ANYHOW, I wouldn't loose too much sleep over it!

I CAN"T think of any more reasors for it, silly or not!
