Been trying to get some of the gauges working on this tractor. the fuel gauge was pegged all the way over so i unooked the wires at the back and pecked on it and it went back down to empty. as soon as i hooked the wires back up it pegged out. is it the gauge?

I'd guess it is the sending unit. Pull out the sending unit. Measure resistance between the sending unit frame and the wire connection. While watching this resistance, move the lever from one extreme to the other. I don't know what that resistance should be because there is no standard for gauges and sending units. Maximum resistance should be in the 200 to 500 ohm range. Minimum may be down as low as 10 ohms. If the resistance doesn't change when you move the arm, the variable resistor in the unit is shot. Sometimes you can use a generic sending unit which costs from $25 to $35 but this will often not give you correct readings at all tank levels - but may be good enough.
