wd 45 oil pressure problem

I recently changed oil in my WD 45 and now have NO oil pressure. I changed the gage w/ a new Stewart Warner to be sure it's not an indication problem....still showed no pressure.

I put the old oil filter back on & it made no difference.

I did let it sit over night draining the oil. Is it possible that the pump lost its prime?

These engines only run 12 to 15 PSI at their very best and many run for years and years with a lot less. The original gauges are designed to read this low pressure and the needle on a normal 0 to 60 PSI gauge will hardly move off the pin.

Jamie,

That "stick" you refer to is the canister tube that goes in the filter base. Without that you will not have oil pressure. Also, be careful with the brand of filter you purchase. Some are brands are manufactured with the wrong type of filtering media and restrict the oil flow. I have had good luck with Fram C-159 for my CA.

It is actually a "stick" or better described as a "dowel" with a sharp point on it. Is that what's supposed to be in it?

Hi Jamie,

If it's a wooden stick with a sharp point, it is not supposed to be there. It is a shipping aid to keep the packed media clear until the filter is installed over the tube in the tractor filter housing. There is supposed to be a steel tube in the filter housing that the filter slips down over, after the shipping wooden stick is removed. Here's what that tube looks like on my B. I suspect the WD45 is similar. Without that tube, the filter will be bypassed altogether and you will have little or no pressure.

One thing I noticed...the oil filter that I took off has a stick in it??? Is this supposed to be put in the new one? Is this a shipping thing?

That thing you call a stick is a small pipe. With out it in place you will have no pressure plus destroy the engine to boot because it no pressure. So yes it has to be in there
