I have an old WD that still sees a quite a bit of use. The problem is it gets stuck in gear and you need to pull the shift lever out and line everything up and you are good to go. I have heard of people welding on the end of the shift lever to build it back up. Does anyone know what the end of the lever looked like originally or have any dimensions of it. Thanks for your help.

A new one is sort of wedge-shaped. Viewed from each side it looks like a keystone. Dimensions? Not sure but about 3/8-1/2 on top, 1/4-5/16 on the bottom, good 1/2 inch top to bottom.

Realize also that the shifter forks wear on top as well as the shift lever. The bottom of the shift lever needs to move front/rear, as well as side to side, thus the angles involved at the tip- to engage and clear the shift forks.

I have a WD with the same problem that will get stuck in third occassionally. It is a pain, but I have to be careful because it will do it if you are pulling a load in third. I heard on here of replacing parts, not the shift levers fault. Im not sure what is needed though.

The third contributer to "sloppy" shifter operation is wear in the guide pin that keeps the
shifter straight in the tower; there are two in the trannys with the curved shifter. I have had good luck with building up the end of the shifter and grinding it back to shape so there is no excessive play. Purely a "cut and try" operation for me. I have also made new pins from grade 5 bolts. Quite a lot of "cut and fit" here too. Both the pins and the tower were worn on my WD-45 and I wound up drilling out the tower holes and putting in oversize 5/16" pins that I also made from bolts. Having said all this, I believe both new shifters and pins (std. and oversize) are available from Agco.
