Can my 1950 WD handle a 72' bushhog mower? Tractor has three point and this is a used bushhog that looks to be in real good shape. If the tractor is in good working order, can it run a hog that size?

Thanks1

You can set the WD's hydraulics for hold position vs draft (for plowing). To hold the mower at a fixed setting, I think you set it for cultivating. Look at the big decal on the side of the battery box. (or the manual) It'l say set screw 2 out all the way & setting screw 1 ...I forget ...

I'd put limiter chains on the three point to hold up the front end of the 'hog. The WD hydraulics has poor position control.

It all depends on what you are cutting. You know you don`t have to take a full 72" cut in most cases. Also you can ease into heavy stuff with the hand clutch. You will most likely want to put on some limiting chains on your 3 point to control your height of cut. I actually like a pull type cutter a lot better than a 3 point mounted one.

It should, with a couple of cautions. The front end might get light when lifting it, not really a big deal, but something to be wairy of. Also, the WD was not known for having great hight control on the hydraulics. When you pick it up, you'll have a real hard time getting it where you want it again, and...your pump is going to want to drift up or down all the time. I have a nightmare of a time with my blade smoothing things out because of that. My dad ran his 7' one for about 3 hours, then put it on a newer tractor with better 3 pt control.

If everything is working properly that tractor should be able to handle it. It all depends on the height and thickness of whatever you're mowing. You might have to mow in 1st gear in some cases. My WD does fine with a 72" (not 72') mower, but heavy growth slows things down a good bit. Oh, almost forgot, the front of the tractor may want to lift when you pick the mower up. Be careful.

That's 72" not 72' - that would be one heck of a bush hog!!
