I have my 1950 WD running pretty well (still struggles a bit under load). I have a 5 acre pasture I need to mow. What would you recommend as the best general purpose mower, pullable/usable by the WD, for this job? Bush hog? Finish mower? Flail mower? How big a mower can the tractor handle? Pasture is a normal grass pasture. It's not cut for hay production, just grazing. I want to keep it mowed, but not like a golf course. Just well kept to keep weed growth to a minimum.

Thanks!

i used a 5' bushhog pull type bush hog behind my wd before i got a 3 pt for my d 17.REMEMBER!!! you dont have a over running pto on it so unless you use one, when you need to stop tractor and mower blades both you need to push in clutch and use hand clutch . otherwise the bush hog will push you forward until it stops.i got quite good at hitting clutch and pushing in pto knob at the same time.be careful!!

I would get a good heavy duty five or six foot Bush Hog type mower, If your WD has had a three point hitch put on it I would get a three point one, if not a pull type would work. This type mower would do the job and would be good for mowing other stuff too, will cut small trees- 2 or 3" in diameter and would be less maintenance and would work on other brand tractors.

For clipping pasture I prefer to use a sickle bar mower. It just seems to look and grow better. IMO
