Looking to remove the snap coupler on my WD 45 for reconditioning. I cannot remove the pin that attaches the coupler to the tractor. Is this a press fit or as I suspect rusted and seized. I dont want to beat on that pin too much without knowing what i got.

Also what happens when the pin is out, do the springs come flying out? Right now the latch lever does not release the coupler hook far enough without some help with a prybar so I suspect its all full of dirt.

Also while laying under the tractor I was looking to figure out what that horseshoe shaped guide does that fits around the hand clutch. It looks like if you hit a rock with a mounted plow, the spring depresses and pushes the guide forward disengaging the hand clutch. This looks like a nice feature and I am wondering how successful it was.

Thanks for any help

When you get the bell and hook assembly removed look carefully at the top of the bell housing. It probably has four wear depressions in the surface. You will need to weld the depressions to bring the entire surface flush with the surrounding surface of the bell. When the bell surface is in good shape it should only rotate about 10 degrees up or down from vertical. Then you adjust the length of the release chain to just make the hook fully open when the aft face of the bell is rotated down. I did this to mine and no longer have trouble getting the hook to release enough. Hope I was clear on all that.

The original pin should have a cotter key on each end. Not a whole lot of tension on the spring. You're right about the purpose of the yoke near the hand clutch lever.
