Back in Nov I posted the problem with back firing and loping up and down. I got her home and went to work on it today. Jack As suggested that the problem could be the rod adjustment between the Gov and Carb.

He had a good idea for a tool to bend the Gov lever but without a welder I cut the rod in two, threaded both ends and then reconnected both ends with a one inch long coupler nut. Now I had infinite adjustment. The rod was too short so I turned one end out to approx 1/16 long and reconnected.

I started her up and lo and behold the loping is gone and most of the backfiring also. This now only happens when you slam it back from full throtle to idle.

Love it when you can fix em without buying parts.

Thanks again for the good avice.

Backfiring when going from full throttle to idle on a WD45 is normal and means she is in time. Glad to hear you got her up and going.
