Model B Interior Freeze Plugs?

Hello all. Normally I hang out on the tractor board, but I've got one for you guys. My dad inherited an A-C B. The previous owner started it up after winter and found water in the oil and oil in the water. Cracked block would be the obvious diagnosis...but. The owner was saying something about a freeze plug inside the block...can't be seen without removing the oil pan. Does this make any sense to you guys? It's a new one on me. I think I'll be looking for a different block. Help is really appreciated.

Steve probly has it nailed for you by telling you about the plugs under the rocker arms. A quick way to check this is to take the valve cover off, fill the radiator up all the way. The plugs are recessed so you should wipe all the oil and gunk out of the plugs first. They can have pin holes in them that are really hard to see and still put out a drop of water every little bit. The radiator is a 7 pound system and you can put some air on the system if you dont over do it to make the check quicker.

most common place for freeze plug failure is under the valve cover. there are thre plugs under the cam shaft. pull the valve cover and look down.--- second most common is the o-rings aroundn the piston liners in teh block, but that normally happens by old age, not freezing. there are no freeze plugs inside the block, jut top if the head.

Drop me an e-mail so I can remember to look at one of the blocks I have here. Ya I have one out in the shed that is open but its to late at night to go look now but if you remind me I can do that tomorrow to check for you about them plugs. Oh if it doesn't have plugs I'm guessing you know where you can also find a block. If you can't guess yes I have 2 of them on hand, ya there from a C but they are the same as on a B

Thanks Rich. Come to think of it, I've got an extra block, but it's pretty rough. If it doen't work I'll get ahold of you. Hopefully we won't need any new blocks.
