Does anybody know for sure what has to be changed from a 7580 to fit a d21.Don't want to buy enginge and find out it wont work..Thanks

All I can tell you is the 7580 had a 426 block intercooled which required a port from the water pump and also more cooling maybe neccessary because that engine cranked out 222hp at the flywheel. It just depends if you're just using the block or the whole engine. If you're using the whole engine there are a lot of issues. One more thing is are we talking late series D-21?

It's a 1965 model, it does have a factory turbo on it.I know i have to use d21 flywheel ,possibly change front mounting plate,but i don't think the original one will work on new 7580 engine?Also oil pan?waterpump?...anybody done this?

There are a whole lot of other things to consider beyond the engine fitting in the tractor. Let's say for the sake of argument the whole engine just dropped in and fit perfectly (highly unlikely) but if it did, here's the deal that engine if I remember correctly had a full throttle rpm of around 2800 to 3000 I'm guessing the old D21 was maxed at 2400 to 2500 with a 540 pto shaft and maybe a dry clutch and it probably has the older bull gear rearend (not updated)that's just to start with. The 7580 and 7080 had the larger 1000rpm pto shaft the 7580 had the 7045 rearend in the front and 7060 rearend in the back unless you ordered the long axle package. The point I'm making is if you don't detune that engine you're heading for disaster even something as benign as dyno testing because when you hit approximately 150 to 160hp you will twist the pto shaft off I've seen that done well at least before I started ducking. The list is endless cooling is another factor you'll need a bigger fan and radiator hp=kw=btu. I'll say this you'll have the baddest D-21 in the field for a while. If you're going to pull it only in field stock have fun if you can disguise the intercooler because that was not original but I don't know the rules. I have seen one D-21 series II with a 7040 maroon belly engine in it looked pretty professional but he said it had issues he didn't elaborate but he said the neighbors were impressed. I'm not sure what you want to do here but you have your work cutout for you. Sounds interesting keep me posted.
