Does anyone know where i can find out what combine engines will fit which AC tractors??

My Grandpa farmed with AC when he was a kid until JD came out with the 4020. he liked AC because they were cheaper tractors, I think thats what he said. anyways, they had a U, and a UC, a couple WCs, a couple WDs and WD45s, and they had one WD45 Diesel and a D-15 Diesel, they had some of the first diesels around the county, but he always said that they never had enough power to pull what they said they could pull, so he changed almost every engine out and put in Gleaners, all of the WCs, WDs, WD45s and the WD45 Diesel. I just thought that that was wierd that they changed the engines. That's why i started collecting AC, because of my grandpa.

Our 7040 has a combine motor in it now ,not sure what model combine it was out of. Had to swap flywheel and back mounting plate.

"fit" is a word that requires some qualification. None of the combine motors simply bolt in that I am aware of. They will require anywhere from minor to major part switching. The most common swap is Model E Gleaner to WC-WD-WD45-D17 gas. Later Gleaner model ?? has 6 cylinder 262 that will fit D-17 or 19 and WD-45D. Later Gleaners had 301 and 426 diesels that would fit many tractors.
Probably your best bet to let people on her eknow what tractor you have and somebody will give you a list of combine(s) and mods that must be done.

If I remember correctly, there were some other swaps. The Gleaner F2 used the Chevy 292 engine. That's a straight-6. A real workhorse. I'd try contacting the "Old Allis News". They have contacts from the original AC manufacting people. They can tell you what a piece of equipment was built with if you have tne serial number.
