After running my tractor wide open for a couple of hours, it start overheating the electrical system (i. e smoking from battery) and I shut it down. I was unable to restart the tractor. I replaced distributor cap, spark plugs, coil, spark plug wires , and rotor, but still had no spark. Any suggestions about where to look next/replace next?

In addition to the troubleshooting ideas on the spark, be sure to check your headlight/charge switch for normal and high charge. Does the ammeter work? Was it showing a charge indication? Dont use the high charge rate setting on your switch for extended periods. That system is not like a modern system, it will pump alot of amps into the battery until it has had all the water boiled out of it. The battery then becomes a big resistor that overheats and smokes. When shes running again, check the generator output to the battery , excessive voltage at the battery shows regulator failure. While ignition components are pretty rugged, a high enough generator unregulated output could smoke the coil.

Smoke is not a good thing. This could mean anything could have happened to the wiring system from overcharging to Ignition switch failure or Ammeter failure to a wiring issue. Best thing to do is start at the power source-the battery and work the system from there testing and inspecting for shorts, or failed components. I would take a route from the battery to the Ignition switch and down the Ignition circuit first to make sure there were no problems and that you have power all the way down to the distributor. A Volt/ohm meter would be the tool to use for this troubleshoot. HTH

I agree with OLD. You can check the wiring if you have a volt meter, VOM or a test light. You can make a test light with a bulb from your tractor. You should have full battery voltage at the side of the coil going to the switch when it is in "on" position. If it is below, the light will not be bright. Usually, burned wiring is pretty obvious.

Just curious, how did you determine that you have no spark?

From what you said you missed to 2 most important parts that should have been replaced. Thats the points and condenser. Now you also said you had smoke which also means you could have fried some of the wiring and if you did do that then that could also be why you have no spark, either way I would first replace the points and condenser
