i'm looking to buy my first tractor to restore. i want to stay away from diesel for awhile. what i'm finding out is that a propane tractor is sometimes a little cheaper to buy then a gas, and i'm guessing that is because of ease of finding or adding fuel. does anyone know more about this and what a good average difference between a gas tractor and propane might be?

BUT propane is dangerous to handle my brother got killed from an explosion while fill a lp tractor also lp is a dry fuel so valves, valve guides and top rings wear extreamly fast lp powered engine is only good for 2000 hours before major rebuild speaking from experience baldwin here

LP gas engines generally have a 50% longer interval on oil changes! The reason is they burn so much cleaner than gasoline.
That translates to much longer life.
LP also will tolerate higher compression ratios than gasoline, in fact many factory LP tractor engines had higher compression to make up for the loss in power which would occur when converting a standard gasoline engine to LP.

I bought a LP fuel C-II Gleaner 10 years ago to use to cut Fescue. The BEST thing I ever did. If you are going to use this tractor sparingly after you restore it, You will NOt have to worry about old gasoline varnishing up the carb. Look back one page to the guy asking about converting a D-17 from LP to Gasoline and you will find my fellings.

Propane fuel is also much cheaper than gas. Last time I had my tank filled up, I think it was about 1.60/gal. My propane dealer just lets me lease a 200 gallon tank with a filler hose for free as long as I have him fill the tank up annualy. One downside to propane, at least on allis trtactors, is that ensign(a-c"s propane parts supplier) went out of buisness in the 60"s. Most propane parts are not available from AGCO. Usually the propane dealer can come up with newer style parts to fix up what you need though. I have a propane wd and a propane 190XT. hope this helps.
