This tractor seems to take off too fast in first gear. It seems to lunge forward and go, which is a bit dangerous on steel wheels. I think I read somewhere that sometimes the gears in the transmission were turned around to make this tractor go faster. You got to hang on when you let out the clutch because it takes right off. Is this normal on this model WC 409 1934. It runs and drives and starts and looks great except for this one problem.

Yep,have to agree with some of the other guys here. Slipping it into third gear is pretty darn easy to do,especially with a worn shifter. I've also got a 1934 WC and I do it all the time. It's number 1262. Rick

Hi Russel 3rd gear in that old WC should be about 5mph, shift down to second and see if it is slower that when you put the shifter in the low gear position, bet you are really in 3rd. You have a great old Allis there, send us some pictures. Harry Case, Allis ,Moline nut

How does reverse compare to 1st gear on this tractor? Yes it's a great tractor, I'll get some pictures and post them later, my camera isn't working right now.

If your shifter is worn, you may not be getting it in 1st. I have one with that problem, if you are not real careful you will hit third instead of 1st.
