in 48 the B used the CE motor which was 3-3/8 bore. If it has been rebuilt in the last 50 years it might have the 3-7/16 standard overbore kit. Soe of the kits used 3/32 wide rings and smoe use 1/8 wide rings so you do need to come apart first. Like Dick, i have overhauled a few that needed bored and did not have the time or money to do it. Some work out for the best, some dont. Dont have to be perfect, but you do noeed to see what the bore is like before you make a decision to go forward.

There is no real way to tell if new rings will help your tractor even if you know the piston size without first checking the hole size. You can put brand spanking new rings down a wore out sleeve and still burn oil like crazy. There was a time when you could buy over size rings but you still had to mic the hole/sleeve to know which ring to buy. Tuff old road for us poor guys but it cost big in heart ache if when we put in all that work along with good money spent and our baby still runs like crap.

i believe by 1948 the bore was 3 & 3/8. when allis went from the "be" engine to the "ce" engine the bore increased.

Stock bore is 3-1/4 inches. You can buy rings made just for that engine from AGCO

the BE engine used 3 1/4" pistons. CE uses 3 3/8" pistons I believe new rebuild kits are 3 7/16"
